J.R. Kenny
Born into the film industry, I grew up on sets and never looked back. Special effects isn’t just what I do — it’s who I am. I’m driven by the craft itself: studying how effects were achieved in classic films, learning techniques from artists around the world, and constantly pushing what’s possible. Working alongside my family on productions across the globe is something I never take for granted.
Tony Kenny
With over 30 years as a hands-on Special Effects Supervisor, I bring deep operational knowledge and the logistical expertise needed to deliver on any project — on time and on budget. Working alongside my two sons is a privilege, and our family takes pride in being collaborative, reliable, and easy to work with on set. Safety, trust, and professionalism come first, always.
Hudson Kenny
The film industry brings together the most talented, creative people in the world — and being part of that drives me. I hold myself to a high professional standard and thrive in environments where precision and collaboration matter. The organizational, mechanical, and artistic complexity of a feature film is what keeps me inspired, and I bring that energy to every project we take on.
DEC Shop
Our 50,000+ square-foot workshop is the largest dedicated SPFX facility in Canada — purpose-built for designing, fabricating, and testing practical effects at full scale. We replicate exact set dimensions and filming layouts in-house, so every effect is dialed in before it ever reaches set. That kind of preparation is what lets us take on the most demanding productions in the industry and deliver with precision.
DEC Equipment
DEC maintains Canada’s largest inventory of specialized SPFX equipment — from precision pyrotechnic systems to large-scale crane rain rigs and full mechanical effects packages. We also operate the country’s biggest fleet of dedicated SPFX vehicles: dual Set Hinos, a 48ft Set Trailer, 27ft 2nd Unit Trailer, 30ft Rigging Trailer, water trucks, telehandlers, air compressors, boilers, flatbeds, scissor lifts, and more. When a production calls us, we show up fully equipped — no third-party rentals, no delays.

Practical effects have to hold up under the most demanding camera technology. DEC pioneered SPFX for Ang Lee’s groundbreaking 4K, native 3D, 120fps production of “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” — a first in film history. Our work is built to withstand the closest lens.
Worldwide Service
Registered as a Known Consignee with the Canadian Government and an authorized Defence Trade Controlled Goods agent, DEC can mobilize equipment and crew to any location worldwide. From Toronto to wherever the production takes us — we travel ready.
